Oh, Great Delta Jet- How We Miss You!
Before I forget to record them, I have to write down three very funny things my middle child, Ali, said this week. She is quite the thinker, and has an imagination to rival Dr. Suess. Two of her quotables came on our drive from Kaysville to St. George this week, for my cousin's wedding. You must understand that I worked at Delta Airlines from the time this girl was one-year old, until this summer. The Delta airplane was a second home to the child as long as she can remember. So to be demoted to driving these excruciatingly long trips (5 hours) was an agony she never could have imagined. Every two minutes Ali would ask, "How much longer?" Like most 5 year-olds would do. My reply would be, "Two minutes less than the last time you asked me," like many parents would answer. Between Provo and Nephi, (1 1/2 hours or so in the car) Isaiah and Ali got in their 17th fight. This resulted in hitting, kicking, scratching, etc. Isaiah is a year older, and he apparently got a good hit in- to which Ali replied in tears, "Mom! Isaiah hit me so hard, he knocked my spirit out of me!"
A few hours later, bodies and spirits amazingly intact- but minds not as much so (especially mine...) we approached the town of Cedar City. (One hour to go!) I spent the third year of my university studies at the small school in this city. I can easily say this was the least fun year of my life, and the town- my least favorite. I quickly transferred to the U. of Utah in Salt Lake City, to finish my courses, and to get out of there! Ali asked where we were, and I told her. This was not the answer she wanted to hear, because the answer was anything except St. George. In a mad voice, half under her breath, she declared,"I don't believe in Cedar City." I laughed, and told her I didn't either.
The last of the pearls came on the way back. Isaiah was teasing Ali about being younger, but this didn't get her down- she had a sassy comeback... "Well when I'm 99, you'll be 100, and you'll be DEAD!"
This girl has quite a future in front of her. I don't know what it will be... (Her latest aspirations include- Princess of the Wiggles, Wiggles Dancer, and Fairy Queen) but I am sure she will approach it with the same spit fire, and thorough determination that she shows me every day. And I pity any man or woman that tries to get in her way.
